Josefa Fernández is Head of the Thermophysical Properties Laboratory (integrated in NaFoMat group in 2016) since 1992. Supervisor of 16 Doctoral Thesis. 196 publications in international refereed Journals in the areas of Thermodynamic and Transport properties, Tribology, Materials, Chemical Physics, Chemical Engineering and Nanomaterials. Main researcher of 12 funded national projects and two joint French-Spanish actions on the searching on new working fluids, thermal fluids, hydraulic fluids, ionic liquids, nanofluids or lubricants in refrigeration systems, wind turbines and other machinery for the generation of renewable energies and automotive components. Responsible in the USC of a strategic and singular project granted by the Spanish Government on the use of biodegradable lubricants in wind energy and agricultural machinery with six industrial partners and Chair of an IUPAC project. Dissemination Manager of COST Network on Ionic Liquids and of the Management Committee member of the COST NANOUPTAKE on nanofluids. María José Pérez ComuñasPosition: Permanent Staff
María J.P. Comuñas is graduated in Physics at the University of Santiago in 1997 and obtained her International Ph.D. degree in 2002. Her work was focused on thermophysical and rheological characterization of materials at high pressures for industrial applications, mainly for lubrication. She has experience in the design and implementation of original scientific apparatus and setups to operate at pressures to 300 MPa. She is permanent associate professor at the Department of Applied Physics. She has published more than 80 original articles on topics including: thermophysics of fluids at low and high pressures; ionic liquids, biphasic mixtures; refrigerants; hydraulic fluids; mechanical oscillation densimeter at high pressure, rotational-rolling ball-falling body viscometers at high pressure, rheological behavior; state equations, viscosity models and viscosity-pressure coefficients for EHL lubrication. She accumulates an h-index of 27. Actually she is involved in the development of nanolubricants, with particular focus on how morphology, aggregation level, structure and concentration of nanoparticles affect its lubricant properties.More

I have been a Professor in the applied Physics Department at the University of the Santiago de Compostela since 1995. My research has been developed in Management and treatment of different types of waste: urban, forest and industrial, Production of solid and liquid biofuels, Studies of productivity and sustainability in soils, and Elaboration of risk indexes for the prevention and effective fight against forest fires. This research work generated thirty R&D+i activities, 49 articles, 4 Doctoral Theses supervised, 3 books edition and 2 Special Issues of the JTAC, and collaborated in three book chapters. A major 123 papers were presented in International and National Congresses. I have also been responsible at different levels of the organization of 4 international congresses. As complementary activities highlight more than 50 invited conferences.More

Luis Miguel Varela CaboPosition: Permanent Staff
Luis Miguel Varela (Lugo, 1972) graduated in Physics at the University of Santiago in 1995 and in Law at the Open University (UNED) in 2000. He got his PhD in Physics (with Honors) from the University of Santiago de Compostela, where he is currently full professor in its department of Particle Physics (Condensed Matter division). His teaching has focused on thermodynamics, statistical mechanics and statistical processing of physical data, as well as Econophysics and Renewable Energies.
His research interests focus on statistical mechanics of complex systems, especially charged complex fluids, and more specifically in ionic liquids; and in complex networks and their applications to epidemics, socioeconomic systems, interregional development, etc. He has also made contributions in the field of thermal energy storage and thermal fluids. He is author or coauthor of over 100 articles, chapters and monographs in these fields, and has supervised several master and doctoral theses, and coordinated regional, national and European projects and research contracts with industries and with the Administration. Currently, he has active research and teaching collaborations with researchers from different universities, among which are Cambridge, Oxford, Pierre et Marie Curie, Vienna, Milan and Naples.
He has been the Dean of the Faculty of Physics since 2010 to 2018, and coordinated Master programs in Physics and Renewable Energies, as well as a Doctoral program in Renewable Energies and Sustainability.More

Víctor Gómez González is graduated in Physics by the University of Santiago de Compostela, and has finished his PhD thesis in 2018 (Theoretical and computational study of mixtures of ionic liquids with additives of technological interest in the presence of interfaces).
His main research lines focus on the behavior of mixtures of ionic liquids with salts of electrochemical interest, both in bulk and confined near interfaces.These studies have been performed using computational simulations (both molecular dynamics and DFT).More

I have finished my PhD thesis in 2016, "Application of calorimetry and thermal analysis to determine the liquid range and the environmental toxicity of ionic liquids", related to thermal properties (TGA, DSC, TAM,...) and ecotoxicity studies of ionic liquids and it was completely developed on applied physics department of Universidade de Santiago de Compostela. In that same year I made a short-stay at the University of Aveiro, learning how to use different ecotoxicity techniques. My current research is focused on ionic conductivity of pure and gel ionic liquids, besides of the study of thermal properties, ecotoxicty and estructural characterization.More

Subsequently, she studied renewable energies Master Degree at the University of San Pablo CEU (Madrid, Spain). In 2015, she started her post-graduate studies at the Faculty of Physics of the University of Santiago de Compostela. She joined the Department of Applied Physics as a researcher in training, within the project “Use of nanofluids in the production of wind energy and in the formulation of more efficient lubricants, ENE2014-55489-C2-1-R”. José Manuel Otero Mato is a Ph.D. student at the Faculty of Physics at the University of Santiago de Compostela, Spain. His main research lines focus on theoretical and computational study of nanostructures dispersed in ionic liquids and mixtures. He has performed studies of pure ionic liquids and their mixtures in bulk and in presence of planar or spherical interfaces. He is also working on studies of long range structure of these systems through coarse-grained forcefields.More
